The popular YouTube channel “Toppogi （Tteokbokki in Japanese is Toppogi so name of the channel is 「トッポギ侍」） Samurai” is run by a Japanese man, Ogamyong, along with a Korean man, Ganchan. They can be described as a “bridge channel between Japan and Korea.” But that’s not all.
One of the main reasons I recommend this is because of the natural friendship between the best friends. Watching Ogamyong and Ganchan can be so heartwarming.
The two of them laugh a lot.
They also conduct street interviews in both Korea and Japan, discuss Japan-Korea related issues, travel around, and report on them. They also give a glimpse into their lives living in Seoul and cook a variety of dishes.
They both can speak Japanese and Korean fluently.
And the Korean people that appear in their videos are, how should I put it, “ordinary people seen from the inside.”
They are cheerful and have a friendly demeanor, they dance from time to time, they praise the two men’s good looks without reservation, and they seem like ordinary people who simply love to have fun.
Of course, some people are anti-Japanese, and that is sometimes a theme of the show, but that is, so to speak, a view of Korea from the outside. Watching the Japanese-Korean friendly duo talk with smiles on their faces, you can see the charm of Korean people in a way that is different from that of Korean idols.
“So that’s what Koreans are like,” I thought.
From the perspective of the two, with an “inside glimpse” of Korea, they are very ordinary people who are not afraid to express themselves.
I think people who dislike Korea should watch their videos. Of course, such people are stubborn and probably won’t watch this kind of heartwarming channel. But, for better or worse, I think they are, in fact, more similar than they are different.
I try to watch this while I’m eating, when I want to relax, or when I want to feel at ease.
How about those who are indifferent towards Korea? You might be interested, and you might even start to like Korea.
The more things you come to appreciate, the richer your world will become.
The number of subscribers to the channel is currently around 244,000 (as of July 21, 2024). I wish the two of them continued success in their YouTube career.
