As an aside, I bought a Japanese paper style lamp from my home, as I talked about last time.
I’d like to go to a hot spring inn (Onsen ryokan), but I’m refraining from traveling during the Coronavirus pandemic, so I bought it to bring the ryokan atmosphere home.
At inns, lamps like these are often placed on the floor of your room, dining rooms, or at the entrance of banquet halls. They pair quite nicely with classic Japanese tatami mats.
I love tatami mats. To Japanese people, tatami is very special, to the point that people say “I want to die on tatami”.
Some people may find it strange to live on tatami mats or on the floor, but Japanese people work hard to keep things clean. As such, the mats are really comfortable and nice.
The tatami mats are covered with rush, so the new ones have a nice herbal scent. People say “The newer the wife and tatami mats, the better.” It’s a little problematic, but nonetheless…
I like to relax and eat with others on tatami mats in the Japanese-style room at home. But it’s important to remember to not be barefoot on the tatami.
Walking on tatami without socks is frowned upon, because the tatami mats get dirty when they absorb the oil from people’s feet. Nevertheless, at home I often use them barefoot.
Even when I go out, I always take the opportunity to use tatami mats at places like Ryokan and Izakaya (japanese-style hangout bars)
It’s nice to be able to lay down on them when you want to take a nap, in your room, if the people together trust each other, they can sleep off their buzz, hangover together.
When I visited Taiwan, in Massage, they really liked the callouses on my foot. Because they sit on Chairs.
The tatami life is very valuable to me. If you come here, please look forward to trying it (after you take off your shoes!).
