A French person living (Whose name is bebe chan べべちゃん) in Japan said, “When I lived in France, summer was just fun, but since I’ve lived in Japan, I’ve started to feel sad when summer ends (TOSHI’s free translation).” I thought this person really understoods how Japanese people feel.

In my own interpretation, in addition to your usual friends, when you’re young, there are people you always see when summer comes, right? There are also people who only get together for summer festivals, grandparents, relatives, and festivals participants. Together they can make irreplaceable memories.

However, every summer ends one-day, and the people who gather change little by little. With life comes birth, death, and new relationships and with every summer it might seem similar, but none of them are the same. And you will never experience the same summer again. When autumn comes, you have to say goodbye forever.

Don’t you think this makes you happy yet simotaneouslly sad? I think so.

It is believed that there is a time in the summer called “Obon,” when the dead, especially relatives, temporarily return home and then return again.

Although Japanese people may come off as simple and lacking passion, they have the kindness to never forget the people that they once had loved.
