Beautiful stories from far away From Japan【The taste of tempura combined with Matsuzaka Beef】Anyway, try getting a Japanese friend!【Complete version】
Dear reader, how are you today? I am a Japanese woman named TOSHI. I am currently fighting the “Self-catering problem”.
Where I live, the sale of alcoholic beverages at restaurants is now banned in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. You can’t drink at night, at lunch, or in the morning.
I want to eat out, and drink a glass of beer or wine along with delicious and unfamiliar food.
Because of that, I’ve been fighting the “Self-catering problem” all the time. The problem has continued for so long, and I’m sick of it.
I’m even tired of my favorite soy sauce flavor, exhausted of getting the same things every night for takeout, and I don’t have the motivation to cook elaborate dishes right now. I agonize over it all week. Now I have an experience in cooking paella twice in a week.
Paella is a rice dish, so it is a popular dish in Japan. The first time I made it, the soup stock of fish and shellfish was very popular among my family members.
The second time, I bought “Paella mix” and put bacon, mushrooms and saffron in it, and it came together quite easily. This version was also well received.
At one point, I tried Sicilian cuisine a few times and it was delicious, but I started getting tired of the taste of my favorite olive oil base. All the while, a thought was growing in my mind:
“Can I somehow make something new and delicious in a simple way?”
After a lot of consideration, I started to experiment with herb butter.
I bought some good butter, threw in some herbs and smoked salmon and it was delicious enough to cry. But from that day on, my motivation to cook completely left me.
Such was my feeling that I stayed at a local hotel for the first time in a long time and ordered room service. I drank an old favorite Chianti Classico and once again found myself with tears in my eyes.
After some time away, I decided to cook Nabe cuisine, hot pot, a type of Japanese cuisine.
Nabe cuisine is ordinary easy to make and easy to balance nutrition. Nabe, a pot placed on a table and heated or cooked on a tabletop stove.
For example, Shabu-Shabu is one kind of hot pot style, Nabe cuisine.
This dish can be very simple or difficult, but it’s easy to clean up after and it warms your body because you eat it while it’s cooking, and you can eat it while chatting around one pot. It has a unique sense of intimacy and is a popular dish for gatherings and parties of all types, especially in cold weather.
The ingredients and the base of the taste are fully customizable and can be almost anything. “Curry Nabe” is also popular.
However, it’s important to remember that the tastes of everything added to the pot will mix together. You can add to the flavor by preparing multiple sauces, but it tends to be just a single taste.
So, in addition to hot pot dishes, Nabe cuisine, I decided to try new dishes and make at least one foreign, difficult dish as an appetizer.
With this, I was able to get out of the rut without a lot of effort.
I made an elaborate chicken pot (Mizutaki), chicken with bones and chicken without bones, chicken meatballs, and the broth is also very popular because some find it difficult to eat meat with bones. Also, my stomach isn’t the strongest, so I like minced meatballs.
In some places, people drink chicken soup when they’re sick to feel better. I tried it with some vegetables, mushrooms, and a little kelp, and got great reviews from my family.
Yesterday I made a Yosenabe pot with the ingredients in the refrigerator, and also made Vietnamese Banh Xeo.
But I don’t know what to do today.
In the news this morning, the state of emergency will be extended. Also, you can’t drink outside, and although this is not illegal, it is not recommended to speak loudly inside a store or restaurant even if you are wearing a mask. So maybe I’ll still be cooking at home a while still.
What would you do for dinner today if you were me?
