The last thing I ate after moving from the international city of Yokohama

Hello everyone! This is TOSHI. I’m a Japanese woman.I lived in Naka Ward, Yokohama, for several months before leaving my homhometown
and eventually moving to Tokyo.

Yokohama is a fashionable port town in Kanagawa Prefecture, next to Tokyo, and home to the largest Chinatown in East Asia and in Japan

making it an international port town for Japan.
This is also the town where there was a foreigh settlement.

In some ways, it may be more international for Japan than Tokyo.
It’s an attractive city that coexists with a sense of generosity and a unique sophistication, and some wealthy people choose to live in Yokohama instead of Tokyo.

Shibuya Station to Yokohama Station is only a 30-minute train ride away.

It makes you want to say, “This is what ice cream truly tastes like!”

The last thing I ate on the day I moved was a chocolate parfait at the cafe, the coffee house at Hotel New Grand in Yokohama, and it was delicious!

There is also a “Mini Chocolate Parfait,” for 2,024 yen and 1,644 yen, respectively. (As of December 18, 2023)

I like dairy products, and the ice cream (vanilla, chocolate) and fresh cream in this parfait were delicious.“This is what ice cream truely tastes like!”I felt like saying that. When I asked about it, I was told that the ice cream was made in-house and that they are very particular about using fresh cream.

The hotel opened in 1927 in the international city of Yokohama

Hotel New Grand is a historic classic hotel that opened in 1927 (Showa-2) in the international city of Yokohama.

It also has a MacArthur’s Suite.(Douglas MacArthur)Douglas MacArthur (January 26, 1880 – April 5, 1964) was an American military leader who served as General of the Army for the United States (…)

On August 29, 1945, MacArthur oversaw the transition of post-war Japan and helped to create the Japan we see today (…).

Yamashita Park and Yokohama Chinatown are also nearby.

By the way, it is said that this is also the hotel where “Naporitan” spaghetti was born.

Naporitan is a pasta dish made from boiled spaghetti stir-fried with toppings such as onions, green peppers, and bacon, seasoned with tomato ketchup. It is a pasta dish that originated in Japan and is different from the Italian dish Spaghetti alla Napoletana, which has a similar name.

There are some theory, but it is said it has something to do with soldiers stationed in Japan at the time, who ate spaghetti with ketchup (From same reference).

Italian cuisine is also popular in Japan, and many Japanese chefs have trained in the country or have a high level of skill and knowledge.

There is a theory that Japanese Italian cuisine was first introduced to Japan through America, which is probably why there are such unique dishes.

I ate at this hotel, among other places, but this one was particularly delicious. So”Naporitan” is a spaghetti originating from Yokohama, Japan, and is unavailable in Naples or Italy. The noodles are not boiled al dente at all, and the dish is seasoned with ketchup, but sushi has also developed uniquely in many parts of the world to suit the tastes and demands of local people.

I think this is delicious and has a strangely nostalgic taste.

It is my favorite hotel, with a historic building, interior, quality goods, and warm service that made me feel comfortable. My mother often told me her memories of Yokohama, and I think I understand why now. The room service cold consommé was also very delicious. I want to go again once things settle down for me.
