Dear followers and readers, I’m TOSHI, a Japanese woman.
Before the coronavirus, I used to travel a lot with my parent, and one day I saw cherry blossoms along the Sumida River from the bus window.
“I wonder if there are people in this world who feel nostalgic about this sight?”
I had a strange feeling, but I never imagined that just a few years later, I would be living next to it.
To be honest, I wasn’t that young when I moved to Tokyo, so instead of feeling excited and wondering what to do,
“How did this happen?” I thought to myself.
That being said, the adjustment was more difficult than I had anticipated. However, it was really helpful that no one pried into my personal life.

For the next six months, I find myself watching the Sumida River as a resident. For some reason, I can’t express how deep my feelings are.
However, the Sumida River is beautiful. For the first time, I was able to have a river in my neighborhood.
My favorite bridges over the Sumida River are Kachidoki Bridge and Shin-Ohashi Bridge.
I sometimes take a taxi to cross the Sumida River, and the view of the Sumida River from the bridge is bluer than I expected, so spacious that it can be mistaken for the ocean, and the view of the big city spread out above and it is so dramatic. I have never seen something like it before.
It is a beauty that you will never get tired of.
Once, I had a lesson across the river, but due to some circumstances, I had to unfortunately stop attending my lesson there.
As someone who had just came from a rural area, there were times when I felt hurt and felt the cold shoulder of urbanized people who were born and raised in Tokyo.
Maybe it was just a misunderstanding, I don’t know the truth for sure.
When I talked to people close to me about this, they didn’t seem to sympathize with me.
“Next, next. Go next.”
They said. The person also said:
“Because this is Tokyo. If you were in a rural area, or that’s the only place you can go, you might have stopped taking the lessons altogether. However, there are a lot of people in this industry and you are bound to find many other lessons to take in the big city.”
I see, I thought, and my heart felt a little lighter. But I still can’t figure out what I should have done. Also, it’s dry, or rather bland, for better or worse.
However, what I think now is that Tokyo is the escape that I wanted. There are many options, and that the Sumida River is the most beautiful river in the world for me.
