【Japanese Wedding】 Kissing Practice and Wedding Tasting【Beautiful stories from far away From Japan】
2025-01-24 | TOSHI

Hello, dear followers and readers, I’m TOSHI. I’m a Japanese woman.
I’m getting married in May. It’s at a hotel. Since it’s a Christian ceremony, the other day I attended a wedding ceremony training session and wedding tasting session at a hotel.
I’ll go into more detail later, but it was very fun, and I learned a lot.
I’m worried that I won’t be able to enjoy my own wedding because I’ll be nervous. Also, in Japan, some people think that brides shouldn’t eat at their wedding reception.
I think it’s because the dress might get dirty and because there is a belief that women shouldn’t eat a lot in front of others, especially men.
However, I disagree with this opinion, so I’ll eat to cherish the delicious food, but I don’t usually wear a dress, so to be honest, I’m a little bit nervous about my wedding rather than looking forward to it.

I will sleep well the day before the ceremony to be ready for the event and be the best self that I can be.
Also, I believe that I have to put the success of the wedding and the satisfaction of the guests before my own enjoyment, and this kind of self-sacrificing thinking may be a Japanese way of thinking.
This kind of asceticism may be a Japanese way of thinking. Surprisingly, however, I heard that Japanese deities do not desire “self-sacrifice.” When I heard this, I was impressed that these deities are very insightful.
It is my Wedding, I can enjoy it and maybe I should enjoy it.
So now I think I look forward to enjoying my wedding with the people there.

So, if you ask me why I’m going to the trouble of having a wedding ceremony, I would answer, “One of the reasons is that I want to wear a wedding dress.”
I’m not a Christian, but I have a Christian wedding ceremony in a chapel. People from other countries are surprised when I tell them this, but it’s normal in Japan. Many couples will be married in a chapel as their wedding venue.
You can only wear a wedding dress when you get married. Basically, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance. Wearing a white wedding dress is a big dream for many Japanese women.
“You might as well wear a tiara. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and I regret not wearing one at my wedding just because my mother was against it. On the day, you’re a princess,” my advisor told me when I was choosing my dress, so I’m planning to wear a tiara too.
During the wedding ceremony practice, we all gathered together in the chapel and practiced the wedding kiss.

The pastor who was conducting the rehearsal was Japanese, and he was brilliant.
He had a dignified presence, and his sermon was terrific. He explained the mindset required for marriage and that exchanging rings is not a gift but an essential ceremony in Christian wedding practices.
After that, we all practiced the wedding kiss.
We were taught how to lift the veil beautifully, and we were told to,
“Kiss on the cheek or the lips. Someone has kissed on the nose, so be careful. Everyone, try it now, two of you.”
It was funny.
Japanese people only kiss lovers or married couples. And basically, we don’t kiss in public.
I asked my fiance, “Are you going to kiss on the lips at the ceremony? Isn’t it better to kiss on the cheek because it’s in public?”
But he said he wanted to kiss my lips. I’m a little embarrassed.

The tasting party afterward was really fun!!

Unlike the real wedding, I was able to relax and enjoy delicious food as much as I wanted, and I was able to drink as much of my favorite alcohol as I wanted that day too.
It felt as though I was home with such a relaxing atmosphere.
It was a strange and happy feeling to be participating in my own wedding!! It was probably more fun than the real thing.
I’m glad I participated in the kissing practice, too.
I’m getting married at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. It’s expensive, and I haven’t been there so often, but I love it. It’s a famous hotel with a long history, and it’s luxurious yet homely, with high-quality service.
What about you? Do you have kissing practice sessions or wedding tastings in your country? What do wedding rehearsals look like where you’re from?
Your interactions are an excellent motivation for me. That’s why I write this. I look forward to your thoughts and opinions. Feel free to leave a comment, and your follow.
