Japan’s Gender Gap Index, as of 2025, will be 118th out of 148 countries, the lowest in the G7.
In Japan, women are only pampered when they’re young and tend to be disposable.
Even while they’re young and pampered, they’re actually not treated like equals.
So when I was younger, I worried about whether it would be easier to live abroad, or whether I would be cherished more if I married a foreigner.

Many Japanese men are not good at housework, but fortunately, my husband is good at cleaning, laundry, and cooking.
Yesterday, he made me a delicious Khao Man Gai (Thai dish) after he got home from work.

I got married at 52, and my husband is the same age.
When I tell people this, they are surprised and often say, “That’s unusual,”.
They seem to think,
“You’re a woman who is too old to have children, and yet a man his same age, getting married for the first time, married you?”
Especially as we get older, infertility and other issues can also be caused by men, but some people are unaware of this fact.
At first, my husband dated women in their 40s, but he chose me.
When I asked him,
“If you had married that woman, you could have had children, but why were you sure you wanted me?”.
He replied,
“I can do all the housework, so I don’t mind being alone in my old age.”
He seems to be an independent man. I’m lucky.
■I still have nightmares
It was really hard for a middle-aged woman in her 50s to find a husband. Even while we were dating, I was constantly worrying about what would happen if the relationship didn’t work out.
